E-seminar: Data Exchange for Biodiversity Conservation in Freshwater Ecosystems: Introducing the BioFresh Platform and Data Portal

Thanks to all who participated in the E-seminar on Thursday, November 28.

The questions asked during the session are available for download. Both, questions and video are also available on the website of the BioFresh data portal.

Summary:

If you are working on freshwater ecosystems, I believe you would be interested in learning more about the BioFresh data-portal that aims to collect freshwater biodiversity data and create an on-line open-access data portal for scientists, policy makers, NGOs, businesses and the public to use. It will in support scientists in their work by highlighting further research needs which eventually feeds into the support of conservation policies.

The portal unites geo-spatial information of freshwater species with the aim to help scientists to advertise and publish their datasets and to provide tools for the discovery, integration and analysis of open and freely accessible freshwater biodiversity data. This will eventually help to strengthen conservation policy.

The E-seminar introduces the audience to the usage of the platform, in order to ensure a better understanding of the different components. Aaike De Wever, Science Officer of BioFresh, explains which data and information are integrated and for which contributions BioFresh is looking.
